Minister Alfred Sears of the Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance attends the Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations meeting on May 12, 2025

Minister Alfred Sears of the Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance, attended the Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations meeting with China’s Foreign Minister the Honourable Wang Yi on 12th May, 2025.

The focal point of the meeting involved strengthening relations with China, through continued cooperation in a wide range of sectors to build and sustain economic development. Countries also reaffirmed their commitment to the One China Policy, a significant pillar in China-CELAC relations.

The Chinese government expressed appreciation for the strong support received from the countries in the Caribbean for their stand on continued cooperation with China, and maintaining their independence from the influences of third countries. China pledges to support the continued advanced development of the small island states of the Caribbean. The Bahamas looks forward to closer collaboration with the China International Development Cooperation Agency on Global Development Initiative projects.

The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Paulette Bethel and Minister Plenipotentiary Julie Campbell of The Bahamas Embassy in Beijing.

In connection with its National Prescription Drug Programme (NPDP), the National Insurance Board has had another star added to its crown in a year that has already recorded a number of outstanding successes for the Board. NIB has been named a Laureate in the 2011 Computerworld Honors Programme and is being considered for a second even more celebrated honour. The achievements of NIB and other 2011 Laureates will be recognized publicly on Monday, June 20 at a black tie awards ceremony and gala celebration at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. Raymond Wells, Deputy Director, Information Technology will represent NIB at the 2011 event.
